Public Safety is everyone’s responsibility! Communication is the strongest weapon against ATTACK. Its up to law enforcement to determine whether the behavior warrants an investigation. The activities below are not all-inclusive, but have been compiled based on studies of pre-operational aspects of both successful and thwarted acts of violence and terrorism over several years, as provided by the Department of Homeland Security. What is suspicious activity? It is any observed behavior that could indicate that criminal activity or acts of violence is likely to occur. This includes, but is not limited to:
An individual or group of individuals making unusual statements, acting oddly, carrying suspicious items, or other out-of-the-ordinary situations.
Someone pays unusual attention to a building or facilities construction or surveillance systems, at a level beyond a casual or professional interest, to include monitoring security operations, taking notes or photographs, etc.
A person questioning individuals at a level beyond curiosity about a facility’s purpose, operations, personnel, shift changes, etc.
